How to Get Rid of Turkey NeckHow to Get Rid of Turkey Neck

The appearance of the neck is something that we tend to take for granted when we are younger. But if you are like many older women and men, sagging, wrinkled neck skin is something that bothers you when you look in the mirror. As skin loses elasticity over time, the neck skin can appear to hang or sag, like a “turkey neck.”

This distorts the line of the jaw, and can make even slim people appear heavy. A neck lift at the Boca Raton practice of Nathan Nachlas, M.D. can restore a more youthful appearance to your neck and jaw.

Nathan E. Nachlas, M.D. is a double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon who specializes in procedures for the aging face. He completed his surgical training at Yale and Johns Hopkins, and has extensive experience and training performing facial plastic surgery. With neck lift surgery, he can eliminate excess skin and fat in the neck, and alter underlying muscles to create a smoother, firmer, more attractive neck area.

Neck Lift: The Procedure

Neck lift surgery can be performed using general anesthesia, or in some cases local anesthesia with sedation. During the procedure, Dr. Nachlas will carefully lift the neck skin, tighten the lax neck muscles, and reposition underlying tissue. Sometimes submental liposuction is incorporated to remove fat deposits from the neck area. The excess skin is trimmed away, and then repositioned to create a smoother, firmer, more youthful looking neck. Depending on the extent of the procedure, the surgery can take up to 2 hours.

After the neck lift procedure, your neck and head may be bandaged. Your neck may feel tight and sore and you may experience some mild to moderate discomfort which can typically be managed with prescription or over-the-counter medication. Some patients also experience temporary numbness around the incision. You will likely experience some swelling and bruising and these side effects will begin to improve within a few days. Keeping the head and neck elevated will help to alleviate the swelling. Many patients find that they are able to return to work and social activities after approximately ten to fourteen days.

For a more complete rejuvenation of the lower face, Dr. Nachlas can perform a facelift at the same time as a neck lift; both procedures can be done at his Boca Raton practice. Dr. Nachlas will spend considerable time talking with you about your appearance goals and concerns in order to determine the best approach to your face and neck rejuvenation.
