Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton Eyelid Surgery
For many people, tired looking eyes are one of the first signs of aging in the face. If people often tell you that you look tired, even when you feel rested, it may be due to puffy or sagging skin around the eyes that makes you look fatigued or even grumpy. If drooping upper lids or bags beneath the eyes are making you feel old before your time, eyelid surgery in Boca Raton may be the answer.
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a popular procedure for effectively making the eye area look more rested and alert. Dr. Nathan Nachlas specializes in facial procedures such as blepharoplasty for patients from West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale. Eyelid surgery, though relatively simple, can create dramatic results. Since the eyes play a key role in our interaction with others, this procedure can also greatly improve your confidence and self image.
Dr. Nathan Nachlas is double board certified in otolaryngology and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He received his surgical training at Yale and Johns Hopkins, and is a renowned facial plastic surgeon. What is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery is performed to restore a firmer, smoother, and more refreshed appearance to eyelids that are droopy, saggy, or puffy. The procedure removes excess fat, skin and muscle, and can be performed on either the upper or lower lids, or both. Unlike a brow lift, which can smooth out a wrinkled forehead and elevate a drooping brow, eyelid surgery only affects the upper and lower lid appearance. Sometimes blepharoplasty is performed in conjunction with a brow lift for a more dramatic improvement of the upper face.

How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
Eyelid surgery is sometimes performed using local anesthesia, but often requires general anesthesia. The surgery typically takes 1 to 2 hours, and is done on an outpatient basis. The incision for upper lid surgery is made in the crease of the eyelid, extending to the folds at the outer corner, and is almost undetectable. A small section of skin, muscle, and fat are removed, resulting in a firmer, smoother upper eyelid.
For the lower lids, the incision sometimes can be made inside the lower lid, leaving no visible scarring. This approach works well if under eye puffiness is due mainly to excess fat. If this approach is not an option, then the incision will run along the lower lash line, where it fades to near invisibility over time. Excess skin and fat are removed and muscles altered, leaving the lower lids looking refreshed and more youthful.
Recovery and Results
Men and women who undergo Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton eyelid surgery can expect some degree of swelling and bruising after surgery. Cold compresses and medication will help you to manage your discomfort, and you will feel better each day. Most patients are able to resume work and light activities 7 to 10 days after blepharoplasty.
Dr. Nachlas' eyelid surgery patients are generally very satisfied with their results, which are natural looking but noticeable. The eye area appears "opened up," and the tired, puffy appearance is replaced by a refreshed, alert look.
