What is Revision Rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty is performed for multiple reasons. Some patients are dissatisfied with the aesthetic results from one or more previous rhinoplasty surgeries. Others were initially satisfied, but over time the results have changed as the aging process has caused additional aesthetic concerns. Many of Dr. Nachlas’s patients arrive with significant breathing and functional issues, mostly related to overresection of the skeletal framework of the nose during their initial surgery. Still others have a combination of functional and aesthetic issues. The Total Nose Approach™ developed by
Dr. Nachlas in the late 1980s addresses the internal and external issues unique to these complicated situations.
Revision rhinoplasty can be performed either as an open revision rhinoplasty or a closed revision rhinoplasty. The choice is based upon the current issues and the goals of the surgery. Dr. Nachlas individualizes the approach for each patient, and these options will be discussed during your consultation. At your visit, Dr. Nachlas will thoroughly evaluate the external appearance as well as the internal functioning of the nose. Often in revision rhinoplasty there can be collapse of one or more structures that require rebuilding during the revision procedure. Dr. Nachlas will review these issues in great detail with you.
